Matt hansen - orchid
Orchid is Matt Hansen’s deeply personal and emotionally raw debut album, exploring the complexities of love, heartbreak, healing, and self-discovery across 18 tracks. Through honest songwriting and vulnerable storytelling, the project reflects on losing yourself in a relationship, finding the strength to let go, and embracing the possibility of new beginnings. With Orchid, Hansen delivers his most intimate work to date, creating an album that encourages emotional openness and celebrates the resilience that comes from healing.
Congratulations on your new album ! What does « Orchid » mean to you?
Orchid is my journey of turning pain into hope. It’s a 4 year long road where every single song represents a specific time in my life. It’s basically my inner thoughts and how I managed to dig my way out of a place I didn’t think I could leave.
« Orchid » is a deeply vulnerable album. You openly talk about the trials and tribulations of a toxic relationship. How do you hope this album will resonate with listeners?
I hope that people realize the amount of agency that they have within their own lives. Every person has that power and I think it’s so important that you use it. Sometimes you need to take a step back and work on yourself and sometimes you need to distance yourself from other people because they’re hurting you in some way.
Your album starts with a trip down memory lane with someone that was your everything and ends with driving towards a fresh start. Is there something you’d like to say to people that might be going through similar experiences?
I think the most important thing I learned during the making of this album was that I needed to make sure I was ok first before I was with anyone else. When you’re searching for you own answers and you introduce someone else into your life it can feel like you’ve figured it out, when really you’ve just added a distraction from the actual problem. Your own mental health has to come first.
You embarked on your first tour last year, a 41-date global tour, what did that experience teach you about yourself as a person and a music artist? What were your favourite memories from it?
I learned just how much I love performing for my fans. Obviously writing the songs and putting them out is rewarding, but there’s nothing like singing the songs with people who care just as much about the story as you do. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that feeling and I hope I get to experience it for as long as I can.
In one word, how would you describe « Orchid » to fans?
